June 30, 2012

this is just us, awkwardly posing for pictures on the street.
I had to commemorate the fact that I was wearing a sweater and peacoat on June 29th.
brendan is one of those crazy people who never needs a jacket.
we're definitely still searching for the mother of all sushi bars.
on the way home, we went to our favorite salvadorean bakery for tres leche cakes.
of course I ate mine as we walked, because I have no self control...

we got this close to adopting a kitten this weekend. one of my girlfriends from work told me the san francisco spca was doing free adoptions for kittens under 6 months old!
and I said, ohmygod it's a sign
that we're supposed to do this. and then we came home and remembered that our dear housemate and friend (and kitten plan ruiner) ian was allergic. way to ruin the kitty party, ian.

(but seriously, that sucks about your allergies
and we love you and wouldn't want you to be a sneezy mess.)

if you're in the san francisco area and of the feline persuasion, spread the word and get these kittens into loving homes! info on adoptions here.

nora ephron died today. now, that woman knew how to write a love story. claire posted the empire state building clip from the end of sleepless in seattle (the one where he's like "you're annie? and she's like "yes!") on my wall and I totally ugly cried. a few of my favorite moments...
doctor marcia fieldstone: tell me, what was so special about your wife?

sam baldwin: well, how long is your program? well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. it was like coming home… only to no home I’d ever known… I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. it was like… magic.
harry burns: I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. and I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. and it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s new year’s eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
joe fox: yeah. I would have asked for your number, and I wouldn’t have been able to wait twenty-four hours before calling you and saying, “hey, how about… oh, how about some coffee or, you know, drinks or dinner or a movie… for as long as we both shall live?

thank you, nora.

one of my favorite things to do is people watch on the bart.
the most random collection of strangers, smushed together like sardines,
forced to smell each other's cologne.
all on their iphones, all going somewhere.

June 25, 2012

I love it when friends come to visit! being in a new city (even if you know a few people) it just brings a little extra warmth to make san francisco feel like home. trina and ryan were crashing in our nook for the few hours they had before their flight to san diego. we had to show them the magic that is broken record, our favorite dive bar.

unfortunately we ended up going too late (we usually go around 7), and they were out of their famous bacon burger and lobster mac & cheese. but they made up for it with their $4 whiskey sours and awesome crispy pork tenderloin. also, they gave us a free cheesecake to make up for the fact that our food took a long time.

service with a wink and a smile.

I love your dreamy lavender sunsets.
thank you for averaging 67 degrees
so I can still wear my favorite fall coat in the summertime.
I love your red velvet fried chicken, your dim sum, your kombucha on tap,
your beaches, your hidden parks, your urban streets.
I love your awareness of the world & all the differences that make it wonderful.
if you could lower the rent of your one-bedrooms/studios
(and maybe throw in a parking spot? some laundry?)
I would never stray.
never lose your weirdness, your sparkle, or your public transportation system.

June 17, 2012

I'm lucky to have one of the most awesome dads around. we spent the day at my dad's house in the 106 degree heat. considering we came from san francisco where it was 73 degrees, I seriously thought I was going to die. thank goodness I had air conditioning, a pool, and my adorable niece splashing around and yelling "I kicking!!" to distract me. and look how cute my dad is in his presents!?
(yes, that's a krispy kreme hat.)

happy father's day, daddy!
you are amazing and loved.

June 14, 2012

today, as I was leaving work and waiting for my train in the embarcadero station, I had one of those moments when you realize, "holy crap. I'm kind of a grown up." I don't know if it had something to do with the fact that I was surrounded by important-looking men and women in suits or that I've been eating too many salads lately.

I feel like a grown up when...
1 I'm horribly sick and I have to drive my snotty self to the doctor's office, then walgreen's, and make my own chicken noodle soup.
2 my entire facebook newsfeed is filled with weddings, engagement announcements, and babies.
3 I look at my college diploma.
I think about the fact that I'll be 23 in a few weeks. WHAT?
5 I get super jazzed (yes, jazzed) about a chenille throw I got at target.
6 I remember that I have my own health insurance. I should probably figure out how all that works, right?
7 I look at babies and married couples and realize it's not completely ridiculous for a 23-year-old to have a baby or be someone's wife. (mama, if you're reading this - that's a long way away!)
8 I come home to brendan, make dinner together, and discuss our days at work.
9 I pay for my own oil changes. and actually care about getting my oil changed on time.
10 I'd rather stay in bed and watch netflix on a friday night than go out.

although, let the record show that I had dessert before my dinner tonight, and right now I'm listening to a part of your world on my itunes. because I'm a grown up, and I do what I want.

when was your big girl moment?

June 13, 2012

olivia and I killed some time before chloe's graduation with a little coffee and ice cream date. that girl makes me feel like such a wuss for my inability to drink black coffee. we are not only sisters but former roommates...I know she misses me bugging her do dishes so much. right, liv??

p.s. if that ice cream looks legit, it's because it is. mora iced creamery is a must whenever I visit my mom, even if it's freezing out. BA is my favorite (dulce de leche with actual dulce de leche swirls. I KNOW.)

June 12, 2012

I spent one of my days in washington organizing my mom's garage,
and I found a few little chesnuts...
this photo is proof that
1) I had blue eyes until I was two. (sigh)
2) my mother is super glamorous.
also, I think will ferrell and john c. reilly got the idea for the step brothers poster from my parents.

June 10, 2012

thursday night I flew up to seattle for my youngest sister chloe’s graduation.  I remember when she was born. and now she is this beautiful amazing woman! makin’ me feel old, chloe-belle. I can't believe that the next time I see her, she will have started college in new mexico. we're all crazy proud of this girl.

also, a huuuuge plus side of this trip is that I got to see my wonderful mama. the picture below is of her entry in the ”women unadorned” exhibit by john wood. I hate living in a different state from her! ugh. but it also means that I get to visit her magical little bainbridge island home. this island is so lush and gorgeous, I think I had a hundred pictures on my phone of just trees.

and during christmas the entire town looks like a postcard. swoon.

 congratulations, chloe-belle!
new mexico has no idea what it's in for...

June 6, 2012

let me preface all of this by saying I'm having a big pistachio/mint green moment.
so when this mint green fiat was parked outside my apartment when I got home from work today, I was giddy. this is a sign from the gods that this is meant to be my car!

me: "Take a picture of me with this car! It's cute and I want it!"
brendan: "That's the ugliest car I've ever seen."

siiigh. until we meet again, mi amor...

(sidenote: my mother ingeniously pointed out that I would die if I ever got in an accident in this tiny thing. does that make me love it any less? no. just makes the love more tragic, because it can never be.)

June 5, 2012

I'm Molly. This is what I look like.

I live in San Francisco.

These are my sisters, Olivia and Chloe.
This is my step sister, Mary Kate.

This is my niece, Kate. She calls me "Mar".

I love cute things,

and delicious things.

Here I hope to put all things magical, delicious, and swoon-worthy. We'll see how this goes...
