1 jean jacket is perfect for may nights that feel like summer. 2 these red cat eyes are so fun! 3 comfy keds + polka dots = love. 4 a cute sundress you could wear with sandals during the day and heels at night if you're dining at club 33. 5 lip balm is a must, especially with spf. 6 a classic striped tee. 7 bright red pants are fun and a little retro. 8 saltwaters are classic and comfortable. and water friendly. hello, splash mountain! 9 hand sanitizer. children. germs. 10 more polka dots. I mean, how can you not? 11 spf, all day, erry day. everyone I know has gotten a sunburn at disneyland once and I refuse to join that club. 12 a cross body bag that can fit the essentials, while looking cute with many things, while not being so precious that if a kid spills a slushie on it, you'll scream.

We leave in exactly 25 days! I'm not excited or anything... ;)

p.s. update! good luck finding that polka dot dress because the Duchess Kate Middleton herself wore it last week!

April 23, 2013

there was...

glorious 75-degree weather,
a birthday picnic for julia in berkeley,
ice cream sandwiches from CREAM,
far too much quoting of indiana jones,
sunday night board games (I won, no big deal),
and the discovery that, much to his dismay, greg looks a bit like this guy.

chin up, cute stuff.

man, this week. am I right? sometimes when it's just one horrible thing after another horrible thing, it's hard to keep your chin up. whether you're a giant country made up of billions of people or just one tiny person in the blur of it all. it's hard to keep your chin up. it's hard to see that beyond the tragedies that happened this week, there is goodness. so let me tell you a little bit about my friday, and why it was good.

I woke up late. decided not to wash my hair as I was going to spin class after work with tanya and megan. decided that because it was friday, I was going to be casjjj. (that's how I spell the shortened version of "casual", or the casual version of "casual".) I wore my striped shirt, my black jeans, my blue converse high tops, and my jean jacket. I decided that because the sun was shining and the sky was so blue and I would treat myself to a full fat (what???!!) latte from the liberty cafe.

a quick note about the liberty cafe on cortland avenue. I've only been there for brunch, but to the right of the restaurant entrance is a long hallway. that hallway takes you back to a patio / outdoor eating area where you can brunch outside, and they also project cute movies like sixteen candles drive-in style. as your make your way across the patio, there is a small cafe, that was obviously once an adorable house. I'm guessing built sometime in the 1930's based on it's charming archways.

there are rugged wooden floors that you can tell have been scruffed up by many a pair of shoes. I like to think that the scuffs are from high heels that had a great time at a party in its heyday.  and there is a giant window in the back that lets in enormous amounts of natural light. and there's a little table in front of that window, which you can tell is the coveted table. it's the kind of cafe that, in a glorious world where I have my weekday mornings free, I would curl up with my notepad or a good book and my vanilla latte and make a beeline for the table by the window.

so to recap, clear blue skies, it's friday, it's warm, I got my latte and hail a cab. about halfway through the ride, I realized that the driver wasn't running the toll. he dropped me off and when I asked him what I owe, he said "don't worry about it. this one's on me. have a great weekend." FREE CAB RIDE?! day made.

two more reasons why today was good:
1    I met up with an old friend from college at the ferry building. we ate chili fries and sat outside and talked about how weird and grown up we felt.
2    at the drugstore I stood next to a man in line wearing a sweatshirt that said "chubby guys cuddle better".

have a great weekend and pay it forward, friends. xo

April 17, 2013

I was feeling domestic and decided to make a pie on sunday. I was too busy eating two slices that I didn't take a pretty picture with the whipped cream...needless to say, everyone at the table had two slices. I think next time I'll try adding coconut milk. and the chocolate pie crust was (say it with me) a GAMECHANGER. also I recently watched waitress with keri russell (whom I adore from her felicity days) and all her fervent pie making has got me on some sort of pie mission. I want to be the kind of woman who can bake a mean pie.

(thank you sofia for the recipe! you can find it here.)

getting my godparent on at the gorgeous st. patrick's cathedral
good ole' peabo bryson and a very sensual album cover. oh, the pink sheets.
we are the happiest people to ever have margaritas.
and by far the coolest.
hope you had a good weekend!

and french fries. and ice cream. why, you ask? not because I'm a good catholic girl. (technically I was baptized presbyterian, with president ronald reagan present, but I digress...) giving these things up for lent was my way of tricking myself into thinking that I wasn't on a diet. this was the conversation that went on in my head:

me: I want a cheeseburger.
me: you can't have a cheeseburger.
me: why not?
me: because you're on a diet. let's look awesome in your cute new bathing suit that just came in the mail.
me: don't put me on a diet. I do what I want, I love myself blah blah blah (eats cheeseburger)

me: I want a cheeseburger.
me: you can't have a cheeseburger.
me: why not?
me: because everyone is challenging you to live without them for 46 days. you think you can handle that? geez.
me: a challenge. very cool. oh man, it's so on.

so, I went to five guys with greg (he's trying to convince me that five guys is better than in-n-out, and I will say that their fries definitely are) and I was that ridiculous girl whipping out her DSLR at a fast food restaurant. people were like, "does this girl know where she is? she's at five guys. her life must be pretty sad if this is a highlight for her." but I didn't give a flying-you-know-what because GOSHDARNIT I was having a cheeseburger and fries and in that moment, I was probably one of the top 5 happiest people in the world. and definitely the happiest person in that five guys.

here's to the girl...
who's scared of the oven.
whose love for hello kitty was ingrained at a young age
and is still going strong.
who will fight tooth and nail for any percent off her total.
who has more yoga pants than one who doesn't do yoga should have.
who believes that all dogs are still puppies.
